Welcome to Allons Baptist Church!
The History of Allons Baptist Church

Allons Baptist Church was founded in 1893 in Mill Creek, an area that is now part of Standing Stone State Park. Originally known as Mill Creek Missionary Baptist Church, the congregation moved in 1898 to the Altona community, which was later renamed Allons.

Early Milestones

In 1916, the church celebrated a major milestone by establishing its own place of worship: a one-room, white-frame facility that represented a long-held dream for the congregation. During the 1920s, the church expanded its facilities by building an outdoor baptistery at a total cost of eighty dollars. Following these developments, the name was changed to Allons Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.

Growth and Modernization

By the late 1930s, the old building had become inadequate for the growing congregation, prompting plans for a larger facility. In May 1942, the new building was completed, and the church officially adopted its current name: Allons Baptist Church. A major highlight of this era was the installation of electricity, which eliminated the need for oil lamps and brought numerous modern benefits to the members.

Mid-Century Expansion

The 1950s and 60s were defined by steady growth:

  • The 1950s: New Sunday School classrooms were added to the rear of the sanctuary to accommodate children and youth classes.

  • The mid-1960s: To keep pace with continued growth, a brick "educational building" was constructed to the left of the sanctuary.

  • The early 1970s: A second expansion was added to the rear of the educational building, providing more classrooms and a modern kitchen for fellowship meals.

The Present Sanctuary

In 1982, after years of diligent planning, prayer, and hard work, the present sanctuary was completed. It stands today as a testament to the dedication and faith of the Allons community.
